Crane Trucks In Texas: A Quick Overview
Crane trucks have various uses especially in places with ongoing construction activities such as Texas. Crane trucks along with other construction equipment have made it possible for the putting up buildings and other infrastructure faster to cope up with the economic growth in an rapid growth area such as Texas. Without the ever useful crane, such efficiency in construction would not even be remotely possible.
The crane has become the all important industrial equipment used for construction and other industries. The basic description for the crane is that it is a hoisting machine that is used for lifting heavy loads and relocating them from one place to another. Most cranes usually have a long reach and can lift heavy loads to great heights.
Modern cranes have varied types and sizes. They may be powered by steam, electricity, diesel, or hydraulic power as well as by manual power. Cranes are vital in industries where heavy materials are being handled on a regular basis. And there are different types of cranes that can do a variety of jobs.
The overhead traveling crane which is a type of bridge crane is usually used inside buildings or in outdoor storage yards. It is made up of two or more parallel girders that span its working area. Another girder is placed in between them that can be moved along the parallel girders with the use of its own wheels. This running girder, in turn, supports a carriage or motor from which a lifting attachment is attached and can be lowered by the use of pulleys. There are also other types of cranes that are installed in their own carriage for added mobility. This allows the workers to bring the crane for use anywhere. A crane that is mounted on a motorized truck carrier can provide the much needed mobility for the crane. These types of crane trucks are usually fitted with outriggers that extend horizontally and vertically in order to level and stabilize the crane for hoisting and lifting heavy loads. The most basic type of a mobile crane consists of a steel arm or telescopic boom mounted on a mobile platform, which can either be rail, wheeled or having caterpillar tracks. The boom is usually hinged at the bottom for more stability when being lifted. This boom can be raised and lowered by the use of cables or hydraulic cylinders. A lifting hook is attached on the top of the boom by cables and pulleys, which make up the lifting mechanism. The cables are operated by a crane operator using a variety of transmissions to facilitate lifting and relocating heavy loads. Then there is the crane truck called the loader crane, also known as "Hiab" by its operators after name of the Swedish company Hiab (Hydrauliska Industri AB). The loader crane is a hydraulically-powered articulated arm that is fitted to a trailer or truck and used to move goods onto or off of the trailer. Unlike most cranes in use, the operator must move around in order to be able to view his load. In order to do this he is equipped with a portable cabled or radio linked control system in order to handle the lifting boom. When not being used, the crane's numerous jointed sections can be folded and secured into a small space. One or more of the loader crane's boom sections may be telescopic or can be extended.
